September 2nd, 2008

It’s officially the new school year.  I’m currently enjoying my ridonkulous 5 day Labor Day break by working at the front desk.  It’s a little boring, but really, there could be worse jobs.  I’m working at the desks between 18-20 hours a week, which is a huge increase from my 8-10 hours in previous semesters.  I want to keep working for Gap, but it doesn’t really fit with my schedule right now.

On the plus side, i’m only taking 13 credits this semester. All management classes. Holler.  I’ll be able to finish my second minor and graduate in December (if my audit comes through okay…fingers crossed).

I’m living in a single out in the Village, and I have to say that I absolutely love it.  Adam and I live across the hall from each other. It’s a dream. Hah. I’ve also drastically cut down on my extra-curriculars this time around.  It feels weird to have down time, but I think I actually like it.  I’m only doing RHA, NRHH, and working with the US Student Association on a voter registration campaign.

I’m starting to freak out about what’s going to happen after December.  I’m going to look into some internships, but i’m a little horrified to have a semester break.  I also need to take the GRE, and i’m petrified about the math part.

On grad schools, I’ve developed a sort of…Top 5 list of grad schools. It’s not definitive by any means, but it’s a starting place, anyway.

  1. UConn
  2. Florida State
  3. Clemson
  4. NYU
  5. Ball State
  6. Wildcard - Vanderbilt
  • Honorable Mentions go out to James Madison and Boston College

That’s pretty much my life in a nutshell at the moment.  I basically have no idea what’s happening.  I’m assuming I’ll figure everything out in the next couple of months, or else I’ll suffer the fate of the Sociology Major…over-educated and unemployed.

Recycling Fun!

August 31st, 2008

I decided to make use of some of the things I was recycling!  Fun, right?

Ice cube trays - I didn’t have any trays for ice cubes, so why not use some pudding cups?  They work perfectly.

Change holder - I needed something to hold my change, so I rinsed out a used tuna can.  How chic?  you could even color it with sharpies for an added flair.

Coupon cubbie - I’m kind of like a grandma, and so I clip coupons. Hey, when you have to buy groceries, it adds up!  I cut down an instant potato box and stuck it to the fridge with magnets.

Twilight

August 15th, 2008

Against my better judgement, I finally broke down and read Twilight this past week.

In case you haven’t heard, the Twilight saga is the next best thing. It’s basically just an Ann Rice/Buffy the Vampire Slayer kind of thing.  I felt like I was a little over Vampire Romance, but for some reason, I couldn’t put this thing down.  I read the 500 or so pages in a little over 6 hours.

“As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because–he’s a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.”

It’s so odd, because nothing even really happens. I’ve never been more bored, yet more entertained in my life. It’s unsettling.

Anyway, if you’re looking for something to beat the summer heat that isn’t heavy reading, check out the first book. Be aware that it’s a little YA (young adult).

Oh, by the by, they’re already making a movie slated to open in December, starring Cedric Diggory:
